Laundry Room Remodel - Planning Stage

This post will be one of a few that are not about current in-progress projects. Although I didn't document the progress of this project in as much detail as I wanted to/should have, I think it's important to share this project because it was the first remodel we did here. While it isn't a 100% completed job, it is currently on hold until we finish our exciting big project!

Anyway... Our laundry room remodel began in July 2016. This dreary and narrow room was a major eyesore in need of an update. The laundry room consisted of one dim globe light spewing an ugly yellow light upwards onto our popcorn ceiling and a wire shelf holding an unorganized mess of laundry detergents, cleaning products, spray paint, coats, you name it, all on display for anyone who'd walk in from the garage. To make the room even uglier, our water softener, water heater AND furnace, are all located in this narrow space too. The laundry room is hands down one of the most heavily trafficked rooms in the house and my OCD could not handle the chaotic and dingy welcome I got every time I came into the house anymore.

A few months prior to beginning the project I began sketching up some ideas of what

I wanted/needed:

1) Remove wire shelf and replace with cabinets

2) Hide the water softener

3) Hide the furnace and water heater

4) Update the lighting to help brighten the space

The sketch above was probably the first of many designs I came up with for this space, and not very accurate. All I knew for sure was that I wanted cabinets for hiding all of the junk I mentioned before. Being only a little over 1300 sq. ft., my home majorly lacks space. What we do have are 9 ft ceilings, so taking advantage of our vertical real estate was pretty much a no-brainer. My next post will be the continuation of the project and the process of actually updating it.
