Garage Insulation

Our garage has always been very cold or very hot depending on the season. This is due to the fact that our garage door has no insulation built in. It is just door itself acting as a barrier from the outside. Now that we have garage fridge and are trying to save money on our heat/cooling bills we decided it was time to invest some more money into the garage.

Our garage door has never been replaced to my knowledge but it wasn't worth paying hundreds of dollars on an all new door when we could just add insulation. We decided to buy insulation at the perfect time too. As a part of the Home Depot credit card promotion I mentioned with purchasing the Nest, I needed to spend "x" amount of money in order to get special financing. We purchased 4 sheets for a total of $80:

My friend, like usual, installed it for us. He cut the insulation into sections and cut down 1x2x8 furring strips to help secure the pieces of insulation in place.

Here's the what it looks like now:

We've already seen quite a difference. The garage is now staying at least 20 degrees warmer than the outside temperature and it has also helped our adjoining laundry room stay warmer. All together this quick project cost us around $100. Definitely worth it!
