We started out with pretty simple upgrades for the laundry room remodel. This was mainly because our skills were very limited; neither Nate or I had done any sort of home improvement related tasks prior. We ended up on deciding to upgrade the lighting first. We have 3 of these ugly globe lights in our house and I can't even begin to describe how much I dislike them. I figured updating the lighting would be the perfect first step because it would actually allow us to see what we're doing in the laundry room!

Choosing New Lighting

I knew I wanted an industrial style pendant light for a couple of reasons. The main one, of course, was the style. I'm in love with Joanna Gaines' industrial farmhouse style. I had seen plenty of these in various shapes, sizes, and colors. With popcorn ceilings, we discovered it's best to choose lighting that shines downwards to avoid the ugly cast of light onto the textured ceiling, and it will also make the room brighter! This style was the perfect combination of functionality and aesthetics. Better yet I ended up finding the perfect one at Home Depot for a very reasonable price! See below:

Here it is during the installation process. We had to cut down the pendant wire, but installation was incredibly easy was a bonus! P.S. The second photo gives you a sneak peak of my other incredibly simple update! Like I said we had no prior experience to replacing lighting, or anything really. Nate gets a gold star! My handy-man in training!

and Voila!

We put in an LED Daylight bulb to give the room the feel of natural lighting and boy does it make a difference! The bright, more pure white light, not only brightens the room 10x better, it makes the room feel cleaner as well! The next step will begin the process of hiding the furnace, water softener, water heater, and all that crap on top of that ugly wire shelf!
