I decided a while back that I wanted a neutral color for the laundry room. I choose a warmer gray (that honestly doesn't stand out much more than the original cream walls) that's just the right amount of color that brightens the room. By choosing a neutral gray, I have the ability to change up the style more often without worrying about repainting everything. Along with the gray, I decided to make a bold statement by painting my door to the garage red -- the same red as the curtains in the room. If I get sick of the red door, that definitely won't be a fun project, but it's been around 9 months and I still love absolutely love the color!

Since the room is relatively small we decided to go with the cheaper paint. We bought Glidden High Endurance Eggshell/Satin - Canyon Echo. It doesn't cover quite as nice as Sherwin Williams and may not clean up as well, but time will tell. It was sufficient for the small space.

We wanted to knock this painting out quick so we did things the really lazy way. Meaning we didn't remove door hardware or light switch plates. To be honest I knew I wanted to update all the light switches to a bright white so I didn't care if these old ones got paint on them and the door hardware was another thing we'd probably replace in a year or so. Collateral damage. I taped around all the trim and the hardware as best as I could and we began painting everything!

We used Sherwin Williams SuperPaint Semi-gloss - Extra White for the baseboards and trim. We've begun using this color throughout the house and I love how bright and pure the white is! This color instantly made the laundry room feel new and clean! You can see the difference below between the door and trim and the picture of the half painted trim:

We used Glidden High Endurance Eggshell/Satin - Red Delicious for the door. This was by far the hardest thing to paint. I didn't do my research so I learned the hard way how difficult red paint is! Also I'm pretty sure I was told halfway through that you don't use Eggshell or Satin for doors... Oops. It took numerous layers of red to finally get an even layer across the door. I had a few panic attacks in between. You can see why. Eh so bad!

and then finally! My red door no longer looked like a 2 year painted it!

Here's the room after everything was painted! I'll talk about that lovely cabinet in the next post.
