Master Bath Makeover - Paint

The first and probably one of the most impactful updates I did was painting the walls and trim. Like most of our home, our virgin walls have never been painted or touched. The color, an off-white/cream, wouldn't be so bad if the trim wasn't the EXACT same color. Because the two match the rooms tend to feel dated, dingy, and even dirty. Now our master bath is a very small room with no windows, so I wanted a neutral warm color to brighten the space. I decided to get my paint from Sherwin Williams once again because their paint just seems to cover so evenly and is easy to wash without damaging it.

I based my colors choices off of my lovely shower curtain, flooring, and mats. I like how the color combination all tied together and am not planning on updating the bathroom flooring any time soon. These are the 3 colors I bought samples of: Realist Beige, Mindful Grey, Sea Salt

I made sure to take the time and test the colors in various areas of the bathroom and paid attention to how they looked during various times of day. In my head, prior to testing the colors, I thought that Sea Salt would win. I always imagined having a neutral green bathroom. However once it was on the walls, it seemed like it would be too cool of a color and was more on the blue side of the spectrum. I was left with a warm gray and a cooler gray. I ended up deciding on Realist Beige because Mindful Gray reminded me too much of the gray in the laundry room. The trim color is Sherwin Williams Super Paint base.

I thought for sure that this paint project would be one of the quickest ones in my home. Eh...not so much. While the space is small, a lot of the walls are hard to reach due to the high ceilings and limited floor space. At times I had the ladder in the shower or standing on the toilet or on the vanity. It ended up taking me about a week to do 2 coats on the walls and one coat on the trim because I would just paint for 2 hours or so after work each day.

I was ecstatic with how fresh the trim looked after painting sections.

For the door, I used a small 1/4" nap roller on the larger flat surfaces and used a small paint brush for the smaller areas.

I'm so happy with the end result, it was already making such a big difference! The trim and the door look amazing now that they are a bright white! Have I mentioned how hard it is to photograph this space? I sadly don't have any full panoramic images of the bathroom without tape and before my other updates. I was also horrible at remembering to take before and after shots. The whole bathroom update happened so quickly that there wasn't much time for taking pictures! I can't complain.

During the whole painting process I was already imagining what I was going to do next. The next update will be installing my towel hooks and hand towel holder/basket.
