Master Bath Makeover - Hooks and Towel Racks

I loved the difference a fresh coat of paint made in the bathroom... but it doesn't change the size of the room. After browsing many (way too many) home decor Pinterest pages, Instagrams, blogs, you name it, I noticed a trend. People were ditching their towel racks for hooks. I thought what a simple way to save space while also adding character and charm to the room. I mentioned in a previous post that our towel rack currently sits about 20" above the toilet. I cringe as I tell you this because I think of the umm *cough* particles that come from the toilet and float up and land on a fresh towel. Sure doesn't make me feel clean when getting out of the shower. Did I mention the towel also grazes the top of the toilet? BLECH! I had gotten to the point where I was keeping my towel in the bedroom or not even using the shower in the master bath because I was so grossed out.
Any who... towel hooks! I decided I wanted them and I had the perfect location for them, right beside the shower across from the toilet. I just had to find the right style. I went to Hobby Lobby in search of farmhouse rustic hooks. I found a few, but they seemed too rustic. Finally I came across the perfect style! I don't know what I necessarily would consider it, maybe modern farmhouse, but it was perfect.

Can't complain about the install. All you need is wall anchors, a power drill, and probably most importantly a level of some sort. The longest part of the installation process was figuring out how high to put them on the wall, centering, and making sure they were level with one another.

I've received so many amazing compliments on these hooks. I've even inspired a few others to remove they outdated towel racks for a fresher style that takes up less space. It's so easy to hang up towels and wash cloths on the hooks and they look nice. When I had a towel rack, like our guest bath still has, it's a pain to hang your towel in a way that looks presentable. Ain't nobody got time for that! Here's the end result:

The old towel rack stayed on the wall for about another week until I finally got sick of looking at it and removed it. Of course I decided to do this AFTER I painted so that meant another round of painting and some patching.
On the other side of the bathroom I found an opportunity to add more surface space on the walls. As you've probably seen, my bathroom vanity is the tiniest thing ever. I can only fit a soap dispenser and a few items on the counter at once. At one point I had been using a very small corner basket to store my makeup, but even it would hang slightly over into the sink and was unbalanced. My initial thought was to purchase a new larger vanity, but the space would not really allow for much more and the cost and installation would not be worth it for only an inch or two more of counter space. That originally made my heart sink. How would I be able to handle such a tiny counter? First world problems...I know. Finally I stumbled across a Hobby Lobby basket with towel rack on Pinterest. Perfect!

I spray painted that baby and Nate hung her up! I really feel like I scored big with this purchase. Not only did I get it during Hobby Lobby's 50% off sale and saved money, it provided a space for items that took up space on the counter AND had a bar to hang my hand towels on! Yay!

Here's a couple of shots of the bathroom after the two installations. My bathroom was quickly coming together! Next on the list was beautifying the mirror.
